Focused on Inner Harbor Seawater Desalination Project

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The City of Corpus Christi held a contractor engagement opportunity today to offer detailed discussions about the Inner Harbor Seawater Desalination Project. Over 150 contractors from all over the world attended the event at the Texas State Aquarium.

This groundbreaking project aims to establish a 30 million gallon-a-day water treatment facility to provide a sustainable water source for Corpus Christi Water (CCW), the primary water supplier for a seven-county region with over 500,000 customers.

The City will utilize a progressive design-build method to expedite the project by having the design and construction services contracted by a single entity known as the design-builder.

“This project will provide a drought-proof water source for the community and countless businesses who depend on CCW for superior-rated water services,” Drew Molly, CCW's Chief Operating Officer, said.

Seawater desalination is a scientifically proven method that will have minimal impact on the Coastal Bend environment. The Inner Harbor Seawater Desalination Plant will be the first seawater treatment plant for municipal use in Texas.

This event allowed prime contractors to engage with the local contractor community.

The next step for this project will be a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) solicitation to be released in late March or early April, followed by a Request for Proposal (RFP), which will occur later this summer.
